Douglas Alexander Ethiopia visit - Somali Region pictures

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Africa

I last posted in mid-October, late at night in the middle of Douglas Alexander's visit to Ethiopia (Douglas is UK Secretary of State for International Development).  I tried to include photos taken on the day, but uploading on a slow connection defeated me, so I'm going to try again now.

In Kebredihar, in the Somali Region of Ethiopia, Douglas visited a school, hospital and market.

Douglas meeting local officials to get a better feeling for the challenges faced in delivering basic services in the area (he's second from left in a blue shirt).

Me with a malnourished child being treated in Kebredihar hospital.

A shop in Kebredihar market.

Douglas, sitting in the market, doing a live interview for a UK radio station via satphone - it was important to explain to the UK public what he was doing and seeing in Ethiopia, and why.

From the plane on the way back to Addis Ababa - the much more fertile highlands, looking stunning from the air in the late afternoon sun.

Pictures really show more than you can explain in words sometimes. More of these would be great if your connection gets back in order!

The fertile lands show a different side to the country from that which we tend to see in the press. Also enjoyed seeing some real Ethiopian fashion - no idea tie-dye style outfits were the latest trend!... 🙂

Well i think that it is good that some people help others that acually need help in theese kind of people . Also i think that some people Should realy bring them food so they can even get healther . And they should help them out more by buying them things so they can get a better education for the children !

If possible, we can do experiments on sowing tree seeds when raining in mountain or desert to build forest to protect people .
